At the end of each day, I prepare my backpack for the next day. Even if the next day is a day off for both work and school, I usually have something planned for the next day that involves getting a bag together. The reason for this is that I am usually pretty out of it in the morning and the less need to pay attention to details the better. Also, I am less likely to forget something I will need to have with me the next day.
I begin this process by looking at my work and school schedules. Since I do not return home between work and school, I need to have everything I'll need all day with me. Depending on the class, I bring the appropriate books, notebooks, papers and homework. For work and school, I pack my lunch and my snacks that I eat throughout the day. The snacks are fruit, to keep my energy up during work. I also pack a light dinner/snack to have before my evening classes begin, so I can stay focussed. I also include something to read on the bus.
Like any good Obessessive Compulsive-type, I like to prepare my backpack for the next day.
First, I have to vacuum it out thoroughly to make sure there isn't any nasty bits of wrappers, apple cores, or vermin particles. I then have a "purification ceremony" where I swab everything down that is about to be put in my backpack with rubbing alcohol. I usually chant either Native American sayings or Gregorian style chants. It's very soothing. If time allows, I will wear a silly hat and chase my dog around the room as an additional ritual. It is only then that I can prepare for a night's rest with confidence that tomorrow will be swell.
