Journal 2 Charles Milton

My most prized possession is my violin. I’ve been playing since the third grade but I received my current violin on my eleventh birthday. It was a present from my late grandmother, she left it with instruction to be given to me on my birthday in her will. It is a 1921 Italian Robellie. It’s a beautiful dark brown stained wood without a gloss finish. As a wood instrument ages the sound matures. It’s smooth to the touch hand crafted and sanded still without a chip or scratch in eighty eight years. From being eighty eight years old the sound has matured greatly, when bowed the violin produces the most beautiful rich sound I think I have ever heard. I try to take care of it as best I can so when I’m playing it I can always smell the wood polish. Since it was a gift from my grandmother it has great sentimental value to me. By playing it I feel close to my grandmother, connected. Music has always had a coming affect on me. Playing my violin helps to clear and center my mind.
