I will always remember the story my grandmother told me about the time she burnt her eyebrows off. Although it happened a long time ago, she still remembers it like it was yesterday.
This incident took place about 60 years ago. My grandmother, who is now 70 years old, was about 9-10 years old when this all took place. She lived down south in Alabama and was the only child after her brother passed when he was a baby. Being that she had to have a lot of reasonability, she often helped her mother cook dinner and clean the house. On this particular day, her mother called to her, “Jessie, get the stove ready so we can prepare dinner before your father gets home.” She them yelled out, “ok mamma.” She said as she placed the wood in the stove and began to light if, as she had done many times before, the flames burst right into her face. She said she screamed out so loud and just patted her face. All she could think of was, “My face is going to be all burned up!” Her mother rushed down to see what all the fuss was about only to see her with her hands covering her face. As she looked in the mirror she noticed her eyebrows were gone.
We all still laugh until this day, even my grandmother!
