Journal 3-Kelly Donnelly

Six years ago my sister, her mother in law and sister in law, two of our friends, and myself took a 3 day weekend trip to Gatlinburg. My favorite spot was The Great Smokey Mountains. It was my very first time and so far only time being up in the mountains. We went in May and it was pretty hot outside. When we drove up to the mountains it was very cool and comfortable. I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere. Everywhere I looked was trees and rocks. Not a single building in site. The air up there was so fresh. I could smell the trees and when we got near a creek I smelled the fresh water. The water smelt so clean and the air didn’t feel so polluted.

The trees were so big, green, and full. Not a single dying tree in site. I am not a big nature lover but it was simply breathtaking. We were dressed in normal summer clothes and we were all a bit chilly up there. It was kind of breezy but it was the shade from all the trees that cooled us down. The small creek we stopped at was beautiful. There was big and little rocks lining it and the water itself was cold. We got to step in it and collect some small pebbles and rocks for souvenirs. On the way down we stopped off at the famous Great Smokey Mountains sign that’s in the commercials and posed for pictures. It was a great trip. I have yet to return but hopefully one day I will.
