The Coldest Winter Ever by Carla McNeal

There is a book called the "Coldest Winter Ever" written by Sister Souljah. It is the story about a young lady named Winter and her family that belonged to the elite world of selling drugs. As a matter of fact, Winter's dad was sort of a Drug Lord in the New York Bron ks . The family was well respected or should I say feared because they were rich and lived a lifestyle of the rich and famous. Winter is a seventeen year old who gets what ever she wants; yet she is void of feeling empathy for another human being. She only used her so called friends for things that she needed, because in her mind she was the undisputed Queen and no one in her mind came close to her beauty. Her world comes tumbling down when her father is arrested for drug dealing and they lose the big mansion they live in and all the nice cars. Her mother who was once beautiful and outgoing is shot in the face leaving her scarred and disfigured for life. Her two younger sisters are taken and put in a foster home. Winter is sent to shelter for young girls her age. You better believe she ain't likin this at all. Without giving to much of the story away I would like to convey the author's point of view and how the flow of the book took me on a journey of spiritual and personal insight into a world I did not know to much about. It taught me how some people can be given an opportunity of a lifetime, eg. (help and support with getting their life together) and Winter only uses this to cheat, steal, lie and cause only heartache and pain to those around her. Winters' beauty, chic and me attitude taught me a lesson about selfishness and how if you don't change for the better, Karma is always around the corner waiting for you.
